2KM2
Pleinbioscoop Rotterdam shows the Rotterdam movie by Carel van Hees; 2KM2. With live music by Keimpe de Jong, Arend Niks and Andreas Suntrop.
This evening’s film will be accompanied by a live performance of a brand new score, composed exclusively for the Pleinbioscoop Rotterdam. This music piece was created, and will be performed by musicians Keimpe de Jong, Arend Niks and Andreas Suntrop.
In 2007, photographer Carel van Hees followed the colourful people living on two square kilometre in the Rotterdam neighbourhoods ‘Kop van Zuid’ and ‘Afrikaanderwijk’. The city centre has crossed over the Meuse and luxury skyscrapers are being built, slowly pushing back the old blue-collar neighbourhood of the South of Rotterdam. The film follows a junky who struggles to live off his welfare checks, juxtaposed with talk of beautiful apartments in the same area, for sale for over € 640.000. Van Hees does not comment or ask questions. He simply registers daily life in static frames with an extraordinary eye for capturing the specific visual, comical and linguistic characteristics of the area. Director: Carel van Hees in cooperation with André van Hout (NL, 2008, 79 min).
Entrance fee: € 3,- The film starts at 9:30 pm, but we welcome you to join us anywhere from 7 pm onwards for dinner, drinks and live music.
