Animations and Short Films screening
Together with Upominki’s artists in residence, we invite you to join us for the screening of short films and animations by Paula Salas and Joaquín Cociña. Please feel free to bring your friends, family and neighbours! Make a sneak peak on the on-going project by Paula Salas while finding out more about the artists’ previous works.
From August 18th until September 14th, Chilean artist Paula Salas (1982) will be residing in the Upominki space. In this one-month working/ living period in Rotterdam, Salas aims to develop a portrait project in a close collaboration with the gallery neighbours. Within Brought by the Rivers, she intends to construct non-stereotypical portraits; images that embody both the persistence and fluidity of contemporary identities, yet, she prefers to think of the project as a chance for exploration of practical possibilities for, as she calls it – polyphonic portraiture.
During Salas’ research, the Upominki space will be transformed to an artist’s notebook, where information and images are gathered and organised gradually. While the place itself for Salas will be functioning as a think tank where ideas can be put to the test, where work will be build-up step by step, it also means that, here the process of her research will be the outcome of the project as well.
Over the entire residency period, between regular working hours (from 10 till 17), the space will be open for visitors willing to follow the developments of Salas’ research. As well as this, before the final opening, taking place on September 14th, there will be a few other public events arranged by Paula Salas i.e. a table discussion, presentation and screening, all in close connection to her project.
