Rotterdam based artist / photographer Rubén Dario Kleimeer opens his exhibition ‘Drie Beeldparen’ in Blaak 10 gallery. With the gaze of an ethnographer, a reseacher of spatial and social contexts, Rubén questions the spaces in which we dwell, work and and spend leisuretime. In three image pairs he combines recent photoworks from China with assignments from Rotterdam.

The filmscreening presents the famous film dial HISTORY (68 min) by Belgian artist Johan Grimonprez along with Besmette Stad (18 min).

The digital revolution has encouraged new perspectives on crafts. On the one hand, there is an increasing interest in the return of traditional crafts and techniques like sewing, knitting and carpentry. On the other hand, digital technologies have given these crafts an innovative impulse. This has resulted in a new genre: ‘Digital Crafts’.

Ongekend aims to release talented contemporary artists to a broad public. The era of ‘ready-made art’ is over. Time has come for affordable ‘haute couture’ on the walls. An exhibition, and after that an auction of the works of 50 young and recently graduated artists will take place on Sunday February 12 at 3pm.

At Boompjes 60-68 ToonZaal foundation presents the exhibition Breekbaar LichaamM (Vulnerable BodyM) The show hostst Charley Chase (BE) Dirk Hendrikx (BE) & Ronald Bal (NL), three visual artitst who use the human body as core subject in their work.

Rotterdam Artists in Residence organizes a bike-tour as an official Art Rotterdam-event. This is a unique possibility for the public to see the international artists who are in town for a temporary working period. In one and a half hour RotterdamByCycle will guide you along some of the highlights of Art Rotterdam-events in town.

On Friday 10 February we are opening five exhibitions: ABSALON, Mister Delta, Kindred Collections, Intervention #20 by Evelyne Janssen, and a display about Maarten van Heemskerck, celebrated with an event on the central courtyard of the museum and an afterparty at the Schouwburg.

On the 8th of February the contemporary art fair Re:Rotterdam will kick off for its 2nd year in Rotterdam.

Students of the Media Technology MSc are asked to explore their theme in the broadest sense (social, mathematical, biological, et cetera) and discover what it could possibly relate to. After gaining sufficient insight in the theme they are asked to formulate compelling statements related to the theme. Only once this is stage is completed they are asked to translate their statements into an installation. Together these installations form the semester project exhibition.

In the Fenix hangar in Rotterdam’s former red light district Katendrecht 62 international galleries and individual artists will show over 70 works on 5000m2. RAW EXPO is a sculpture exhibition on the first floor of this hangar.

Complementing the Art Rotterdam art fair, Dek22 is pleased to present ‘Dek22 Like’, an exhibition of recent works by Jan Adriaans, Thomas I’Anson, Maarten Peerdeman Onno Poiesz, Rotganzen and Miko Veldkamp.

RAW is a new art event in the city of Rotterdam. Young, fresh and different-that is how it will be! RAW offers its visitors, gallerists, artists and collectors a completely revisited art fair experience. The fair will take place from the 8th to the 12th of February 2012 simultaneously with the established Art Rotterdam and Object Rotterdam on 700m walking distance.
