Rotterdams Open Doek

Each month Rotterdams Open Doek exhibits shorts made by talented filmmakers that are assessed best by the jury. In the next edition of Tuesday, April 14th four short films were selected and there is the special premiere of the film ‘Melany’ (with Raymond Thiry).

Senna @ CineNoord

A documentary on Brazilian Formula One racing driver Ayrton Senna, who won the F1 world championship three times before his death at age 34.

Every film night starts with a Rotterdam short movie and a brief introduction.

Cinema & bar open at 19.30 hrs. Film starts at 20.00 hrs.

Manifest: Animation Show & Tell

Manifest is a regular animation show & tell evening. Just like the school show & tell exercise, participants bring an animation clip that they love (that they didn’t create themselves) and they share with the audience what it is and why they chose it. Come to manifest to see what people are passionate about and why. Drink a beer and chat with the presenters about animation.

Camera Japan screening - Uzumasa Limelight

The second screening of Camera Japan is of the festival’s 2014 Audience Award winner Uzumasa Limelight. An ode to bit piece actors in film, a loving tribute to samurai films and the changing of the times.

Film Club: In the Shadow

The Czech hit movie In the Shadow (Ve stínu) is a gripping crime story, set in the communist Czechoslovakia of the 1950s. Captain Hakl investigates what looks like a clear-cut robbery of a jewelry store, but for political reasons someone higher up decides to intervene. David Ondříček’s film noir won a record total of nine Czech Lion Awards, including awards for best movie, best director and best leading actor.

Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny

For the first time ever the opera Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny will be staged at The Royal Opera House. An important work, which resulted from the remarkable collaboration in the late 20s, between playwright and poet Bertolt Brecht and composer Kurt Weill. The show, directed by Mark Wigglesworth and sung in English, will be shown on Wednesday, April 1st at 20:15 live LantarenVenster.
