Thursday Night: Christiania, 40 Years of Occupation

In 1970 a group of hippies squatted an abandoned military barracks in the Danish capital, Copenhagen. The film Christiania: 40 Years of Occupation combines historical footage from the early days of the commune with interviews with the current residents.

Krakatit - a movie

On Wednesday 10th February, Czech Centre Rotterdam will present a Dutch translation of Krakatit, a novel by Karel Čapek. The main character of the story is a scientist, who accidentally discovers an exceptionally strong explosive substance.

Manifest: Animation Show & Tell

Manifest is a regular animation show & tell evening. Just like the school show & tell exercises, participants bring an animation clip which they love and they share with the audience what it is and why they chose it. Come to the manifest to see what people are passionate about and why. Drink a beer and chat with the presenters about animation.

Thursday Night: Virtual Fashion with Jacob Kok

Fashion exists not only in the physical domain but can also create new realities through animation and virtual reality. Fashion designer and animator Jacob Kok enjoys working in both realms. During this evening he will show his favourite new films and virtual reality fragments. Earlier this year Kok made the documentary See the Light about the influence of digital developments on human identity.

In the first Off Screen edition of 2016, Bero Beyer, the new director of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, will talk about his personal suggestions for the upcoming festival. Off Screen offers a screening program with films by and interviews with Rotterdam-based filmmakers.

Mr. Holmes in Cinema Islemunda

The story is set in 1947, following a long-retired Holmes living in a Sussex village with his housekeeper and rising detective son. But then he finds himself haunted by an unsolved 50-year old case. Holmes’ memory isn’t what it used to be, so he only remembers fragments of the case: a confrontation with an angry husband, a secret bond with his beautiful but unstable wife.

In a visual language full of dance and movement, her journey crosses the scorched landscape of the American Southwest.
