De Wereld van Witte de With
This September, Rotterdam is hosting the 13th edition of the three-day art festival De Wereld van Witte de With, presenting the best of the city’s arts and culture: visual art, architecture, theatre, dance, film and music.
Who owns the street? How do you use the city’s public space? This year, the festival De Wereld van Witte de With focuses on the street. For three days, the hottest art street in Rotterdam simmers with tastes of Berlin. Unexpected and edgy, this edition challenges people to reconsider the city.
With Berlin artist collectives raumlaborberlin, Uberbau and Rotterdam’s StudioSpass, curator Lukas Feireiss has transformed the street into an outdoor exhibition. Which is accompanied by a parallel programme of visual art, architecture, theatre, dance, film and music devised by the city’s cultural institutions.
Arminius en V2_ Institute for the Unstable Media explore the topical phenomenon ‘drones’ – unmanned robot aircraft used for espionage and targeted killing. WORM, raw and honest, is inspired by the Berlin squatter movement. TENT organizes a ‘concrete jungle’ with a sustainable twist. While Floris Visser’s hidden sound and light buttons test people’s actions and reactions. And, for the festival, Showroom MAMA has transformed its exhibition space into a stage, and the street into a tribune.
