Kunstweekend Charlois
The 21st of june opens The Artweekend Charlois with this years title: ‘THIS COULD BE Rotterdam OR ANYWHERE…’followed by three more days of art exhibitions, performances, music and much more. Over 16 locations in the Charlois Arae, just on the south side of the Maastunnel in Rotterdam, show you more then 100 artists from inside and out of Charlois. With names like Marc Bijl, Bernaud Smilde, Dennis de Bel, Bombay Show Pig, Abner Preis, and many more.
From the 21st of june till the 24th, the Artweekend Charlois will take place. This year the festival made a new step into a more curated setup in order to make new links between the arts in the area and the rest of Rotterdam.
The core program will be formed by 5 curated shows for which the festival asked 5 curating teams to create a show with artists from inside and out of Charlois: -‘Easy’ by Jeroen Jongeleen -‘Fragile’ by Teodora Kotseva -‘Werk is x, y is spel en z is je mond dicht houden’ by Belinda Hak and Vincent Cardinaal -‘There’s NO pain in painting’ by V&B (Alex Jacobs and Ellemieke Schoenmaker) -Performances by PAE (Nina Boas and Ieke Trinks)
The shows will be on display on different locations that can be found at the website of the festival.
Around this program, a lot of events will take place, organized by artists and initiatives from Charlois like Hommes Gallery, Museum Rotterdam, the NAC-foundation, the Kunstelevator and more.
Saturday the 23th of june a big music-event will take place at the B.a.d-foundation under the name of Aether Sound Trash with bands like Bombay Show Pig and JC Thomaz and the Missing Slippers. That night will end with a notorious after-party at the studio Pompstraat.
The whole weekend will end with a so called FITAX500, organized by the Tupajumi Foundation. This art-trade fair brings together a big group of visual artists that hopefully will leave the weekend with a work of another artist.
The opening of the weekend will be held at the Nieuwe Oogst which will be Thursday June 21 at 17.00h.
