Route du Nord
With a growing list of names in the field of visual arts, fashion, photography, literature and music, the program of Route du Nord has taken a fine shape. An exciting art weekend in “Het Oude Noorden” is a guarantee on 22, 23 and 24 of June.
Set up in several temporary gallery spaces Route du Nord welcomes amongst others;Frank Havermans, Observatorium, Sander Reijgers, Geert Mul, Lenny Oosterwijk, Babette Kleijn, Wim de Roo, Daan den Houter, Anique Weve, Doreen van der Meer, Bo & DO, Efrat Zehavi, Maurice Meeuwisse and Marin de Jong. Besides exhibiting and performing collectives like De Fabriek and Vice Venus Platform will be hosting parties and other events.
‘Seven ways to fall a sleep’ is a group exhibition in which guest curator Hugo Bongers hands us an insight into the changing relationships between the sexes. Artists he invited include Petra Laaper, Tim Leyendekker, Martijn te Winkel and the Tukker & Everwijn Institute. This event will be hosted in Garage C (formerly known as Rotabs) and is located between the Zaagmolenkade and the Zwaanshals. In the retail units of Garage C, Bob Smit GALLERY, Galerie Frank Taal, Galerie Hommes, Galerie IRIS CORNELIS, JOEY RAMONE, ZIC ZERP GALERiE also present themselves in the retail units of Gallery C.
For the first time Route du Nord is including Noordplein as an event location exhibiting Mont Nord, an artwork by Maurice Meeuwisse. Also on this square live painting by KAMP HORST, Ces 53 and 6 of 7.
Music Hailing from the Hague and Rotterdam the band Organisms has its roots in illustrious rock bands from the near past like Incense, Spider Rico and Feverdream. The Rotterdam based singer / songwriter Vera has in the past proven very successful at Route du Nord. Lenya (Julia Reinhold) provides us with an intimate living room concert. Rotterdam bassist Bruno Ferro Xavier da Silva (Doodoo’s Coffee, stoma, Dr. Schnitt) will be performing a solo set. All these performances will be held at Cafe Faas, Cafe de Wijnberg and SPAM, see website for details.
Literature Stichting Nadorst are programming the literary side of this cultural weekend. Several writers from Rotterdam will recite their work at De Rotterdamse Boekenplank which will be held at Whiskybase located on the Zwaanshals. Watch out for famous names like Daniel Dee, Upperfloor and Benne van der Velde. On Sunday there will be a Poetry stage on Mont Nord at Noordplein.
