48 Hour Film Project Rotterdam

The second edition of the 48 Hour Film Project Rotterdam is taking over the city. In the weekend of August 23 - 25 several Rotterdam based filmmakers will compete in making a complete short film in just 48 hours. An intensive and sleepless creative weekend!

Sight of Sound

For as long as there is film there is a great inspiration called music, in the work of (experimental) filmmakers. Tracks can determine the rhythm of the assembly (Free Radicals, Len Lye) or as in Norman McLaren’s Synchromy, the image creates the sound. When is something a short film with musical accompaniment and when is something a music video? In any case, the synergy between music and film is immensely popular and often makes short films such favorites with the public.

Don Hertzfeldt animatie: It’s such a beautiful day

It can be: draw your own animations, get enough payed to live from it (Hertzfeldt does no commercial work) and even get an Oscar nomination.

A good idea, pencil and paper. Pitch-black humor, perfect timing, melancholy and compassion called with a few lines and do-it-yourself film tricks.

Kino Klub Goethe: Der Himmel über Berlin / Wings of Desire

Damiel and Cassiel are two of the angels in Berlin who, from lofty vantage points, watch over the fate of the people below. Director Wim Wenders narrates this fairytale for grown-ups with wonderful ease and certainty, and Wenders’ cameraman, the great Frenchman Henri Alekan, played a major role in creating the poetic images – particularly in the powerful black-and-white sequences.

Cultvideotheek at WORM invite you a lenghtly evening with 2 filmscreenings dedicated to Russian poetry and cinema. Arie van der Ent from Cafe Tchechov will introduce the Tarkovski-classic “The Mirror” and the second feature (a tribute to the recently deceased Balabanov). Between the features a russian poetry intermezzo (films & poems russian & dutch spoken only).

The last ambulance of Sofia / Komm, süßer Tod

This co-production between Germany, Bulgaria and Croatia is an observational documentary of Bulgarian director Ilian Metev. The film follows paramedics on one of Sofia’s most dangerous fleet of ambulances. The medical infrastructure is a disaster and ambulance services has been hit hardest. The daily stress is imaged by a series of absurdities.

A platform where film makers and film lovers can meet, where new films can be shared with the audience and a lesson can be learned from an expert, the ultimate place for talent development.
