Space Between Festival
Space Between is a new electronic music festival with two days of music, film and light-art. This takes place in jazz venue BIRD in the first weekend of December. Space Between brings the sound of today and the future to Rotterdam. Electronic, soul, beats, Detroit house, film and art are thrown in a blender with an eclectic and very danceable cocktail as a result.
Friday December 2nd
The festival opens with the movie High Tech Soul: The Creation of Techno Music, a documentary that shows the impressive history of technology. Magic Mountain High (JuJu & Jordash and Move D), the Amsterdam-German combo will bring the-sizzling house with jazz and electronic influences live on the stage. And a closing DJ-set by Rick Wilhite. A DJ who has worked with techno legend such as Juan Atkins and is compared to the greats such as Theo Parrish, Marcellus Pittman and Moody Mann. Expect a crash course in anything that is something in house, disco and techno. The Rotterdam heroes, T!M and Khalil, will provide the musical warming-up and cooling down on the night.
Saturday December 3rd
Tanya Auclair is a singer-songwriter armed with a sampler, an ukulele and a great voice. She’s been compared to Björk and Andreya Triana. The past year Quadron conquered the United States and now it’s Europe’s turn. The Danish duo easily combines electronics with soul and jazz and had already given a memorable concert at BIRD. Dorian Concept is the last live-act of the evening, an Austrian beatmaker and keyboard virtuoso. Expect a brilliant show with beats and tintillating electronics. The night is the domain of Benji B, one of the trendsetters of the new electronic music. With one foot in the jazz, funk, soul and hip hop from the past and the other in the United Kingdom bass, dubstep, electronic and house of the future. This mix makes this highly regarded DJ the perfect ending of the first edition of Space Between. He is assisted by Strange Fruit DJ’s Lucky Dubz and Thelonious.
