Stöma Albumrelease ‘Up Closer’
Here it is, unannounced and into your face: the first real popalbum of Stöma. Pop with an attitude, tight rhythm sections and dope bass and electronic beats and loops. On Saturday 22 September Stöma presents their new album ‘Up Closer’ in Grounds. Prepare ship for lift off!
Stöma is a funk/rock trio consisting of Wouter van Wijk (drums), eNi-LeSs (turntablism) and Bruno Ferro Xavier da Silva (bassguitar, electronics, vocals).
Stöma performance’s are always intens and vibrant, balancing on the edge of improvisation. Their music is very dynamic, psychedelic and theatrical taking influences from every possible source: Primus, Stooges, Hendrix, John Coltrane, Butthole Surfers, MF Doom, Stravinsky, Autechre, King Krimson, James Brown, Nels Cline, Captain Beefhart, Aphex Twin, Steve Reich, Harry Merry, John Zorn, Ruins, Tool, Sonic Youth, Tool, Eric Dolphy, Mike Watt, RHCP, Bauhaus, Public Enemy…
Stöma has toured the Dutch club scene and played on many festivals (Paradiso, Bibelot, Nighttown, Worm, Metropolis Festival). They were the opening act for Tricky and tours abroad have led them to perform in cities like Istanbul, Namur, Brussels, Moskow, St. Petersburg and Kiev.
Since the release of their first CD in 2005, Stöma has built a large fanbase. Stöma have left a lasting impression everywhere they played in the last years. Audience is left in awe of the musicianship and the ‘rocking of tha house’. Nik Nok 7” was released in 2007, followed by Boe! in 2008 which was voted one of the best records on the VPRO 3voor12 Luisterpaal.
