Opening Planet Quirk

MAMA is proud to present the first solo exhibition by Mike Moonen, for which he has created a very personal biotope: Welcome to Planet Quirk.

The cartoon character Flipje van Tiel, a fake plant, a graffiti tag with a spelling mistake – these are the images that stick in Mike Moonen’s mind, but probably aren’t even noticed by other people. In an environment where everything’s designed there’s a danger we’ll lose any sense of wonder, because we’re just so used to it – images become so flawless and uniform that we develop a blind spot for them. Mike Moonen searches for the human blips in the pursuit of perfection and highlights the failures that cause disruption and confound expectations.

Making Public with Pia Pol and Florian Cramer

Digitisation is commonplace and born-digital materials such as moving images are mainstream. One of perks of electronic media is that they allow for rich media, yet the now common format for electronic books - ePub - is in many senses a poor medium, focused manly on text, whose visual manifestation vary widely from reading device to reading device, a scenario reminiscent with the early days of the World Wide Web.

Keith Haring. The Political Line

‘The Political Line’ is a major exhibition on the life and work of influential American artist and activist Keith Haring (1958-1990). With his unmistakably unique style, Keith Haring, a protégé of Andy Warhol, spawned a revolution in art during the 1980s.
