Twenty years after the reunification, the DDR history is again a topic of interest - in short films by filmmakers and artists living in Germany. They consider the role of the East German artists, athletes and intellectuals. For most part the witnesses and documents speak for themselves, which sometimes even evokes a little humor.

Hans Richter’s ‘Dreams that Money Can Buy’ is a 1947 experimental film considered a classic of avant garde cinema. The film tells the story of Joe Narcissus, a man who struggles to pay his rent until he discovers the power to create custom-made dreams for a variety of troubled clients.

Kino Klub Goethe presents its third feature, the movie Der Amerikanische Freund. In this movie Wim Wenders’ mines Dennis Hopper’s real-life experience as a painter and collector in an existential take on the American gangster film; based on a Patricia Highsmith novel featuring the notoriously sociopathic Tom Ripley.
