Trespa feat. El ombligo (the ornette coleman vs cumbia experiment)
Trespa is the bar & drinks ‘test lab’ for edgy pop music. Happy hour from 22:00 until 23:00. Special guests for this Edition: the Live band El Ombligo!
El Ombligo is the cumbia experiment of Colombian double bass player Santiago Botero, culminating in what can be perceived as the bastard son of Colombia’s cumbia / vallenato troubadour Andres Landero and free jazz pioneer Ornette Coleman. The group is comprised of renowned members of the jazz and improv scene of The Netherlands; Santiago Botero is a respected bass player and improviser that has spent much of his time bridging the gap between instrumental Colombian folk and free improvised music. Argentinians Natalio Sued on tenor saxophone and Marcos Baggianni on drums complete the latin quota of the band. Fourth member is the virtuoso Turkish bass clarinet player Oğuz Büyükberber. El Ombligo just released their album “Cancion Psicotropica y Jaleo” on Festina Lente Discos.
